About the Show
Branches: The Chekhov Project is The New School for Drama’s creative adaptation of several plays by Anton Chekhov. Adapted by director of professional development, Robert Hoyt, Branches explores the common themes, characters, structures, and actions in Chekhov’s The Seagull, The Cherry Orchard, Three Sisters, and Uncle Vanya. The plays are delivered virtually simultaneously as the action of one overwhelms another until every seam is lost. The costumes mix modern and Victorian styles as the opening frames the evening as a rehearsal among company members slowly seeping into the black, Victorian world of the plays.
