About the Show
The Classical Theatre of Harlem, in its debut at the world famous Apollo Theater, brings a new Harlem-based holiday musical that crosses genres — from disco to rock to gospel that promises to be a classic for years to come.
The Apollo’s Soundstage is transformed into a winter wonderland when beloved Christmas carols are re-imagined as dynamic new songs, destined to become holiday favorites for a new generation.
The First Noel follows three generations of a family affected by the tragic loss of a loved one, when an unexpected visit reveals some long-absent Christmas joy. It is a story about how a community is healed, one family at a time, as everyday people do extraordinary things to help one another receive the gift of love at Christmas time.
Jason Michael Webb (Motown:The Musical, Violet) and Lelund Durond Thompson (founder, YellaFella Entertainment and CTH Artistic Associate) along with director Steve H. Broadnax III (world premiere of Dominique Morisseau’s Blood at the Root) lead the artistic team.
The creative team is rounded out by Dan Robinson (scenic design), Rachel Dozier-Ezell (costume design), Alan C. Edwards (lighting design), Curtis Craig (sound design) and Andre Zachery (projection design).
